We took Bingley for a walk at Bells rapids today. The water level and speed had drastically reduced from a few weeks ago when we went with A & J whilst they were here.

Here's our first water lilly flowering - and all the fish are doing well.

I'm amazed the cats (and the dog) never try to get them.

Pressure test

I had to work on Saturday, due to a pressure test being done on our computer room. To ensure that the room is confined in the case of a file. The computer room is a sealed unit, which shouldn't allow air in and out - other than via the air conditioners. So once every couple of years the fire service come in, strap a couple of big fans where one of the doors is, and create pressure in the room. By measuring the pressure created, they can calculate if we have any leak.

A clean pass once again - but a pain for use, as we had to shut down and restart all the production servers, so the room doesn't get too hot during the tests - something that took us just over 5 hours.

Today (Sunday) was thankfully work free, and started at 10am with a big breakfast party at D & M's. A very nice cooked breakfast, which tired us out for the rest of the day!

Introducing a great can opener

Introducing a great can opener
Originally uploaded by robandwend.

OK, a can opener may be something most people wouldn't get too excited about. But for this one I make an exception...

A few weeks ago, our old trusty can opener died (fell apart) - it was one of those which slice off the top of the can, rather than cutting a circle into the lid. It worked well, and we were sad to see it go.

Open it

This replacement caught my eye, because it stated - no sharp edges. Something I took with a grain of salt, since slicing off the top was sure to leave a sharp can below.

But having got it home and tried it, I'm really amazed - it manages to get the 'lid' component, seperated from the sides of the can. It does it in such a way that the lid can be pushed back onto the can, and their really arn't any sharp edges.

Opened the can by releasing the top

Basically it cuts very accurately halfway through the crimped edge of the lid, so the crimped hold on the sides is lost. Thus a simple push up, removes the lid from the can. The lid is still whole, and so can be pushed back onto the can, giving an impression that it's still sealed.

Can lid has been released - still hard to tell it's open

WTW: W says I get my excitement at these sort of things from my Dad - so don't blame me!

I was putting all my images onto my own web space, but Blogger sometimes goes very slow, and besides - why use my own space, when flickr offers space for free.

Here's one I've just put up to test it out... One of the other good things with flickr is that when you click on the picture from my blog, you got to where all my pictures (will) be stored, and can see lots more.

I'm currently putting up some of the wedding shots - here's the start of Daves.

Long week

Why are the years going so fast, when the weeks are really dragging by.

A week of work, and for me little else. W has a couple of evenings out, with her personal trainer one night, and a 'de-stress' course at the Uni one evening.

The current book with my book club is 'The Expected One' - this is honestly the worst book I have ever read - and the last chapter reveals the the author is a total fruit-cake. I feel like I've been duped reading such badly written, unbelievable dribble, from someone who claims it's all true (execpt I can't reveal my sources). Eugh.

Long weekend

Back to work after a long weekend - or at least a long weekend if you ignore having to work on Sunday, and getting called a couple of times by work Saturday. The weather was super (after a light shower Sat AM).

So I got around to putting the doors on the pizza-oven - I know, I've already covered that. I also put in a new heater pump for the pool - another great buy from ebay. So now the pools starting to warm up ready for our 1st swim.

The garden is starting to get hard to manage, or at least so W and her mum tell me, I wouldn't know a weed from a plant, or when something is desperate to be cut back. We've a reasonable large garden, and it's chokka with plants, so we've decided to get a gardener in every couple of weeks to give us a hand. He came around this weekend, and W gave him the tour - telling him all the essentials that need doing.

W's taken to letting the chickens wander around the garden during the day at the weekends. They really aren't too much of a problem, except for the mess they've made to one of the paths at the bottom of the garden... The path is made of 'white-path-stones' which are now covered with a heap of wood-chip mulch, thanks to the chooks flicking it everywhere. Sorting the stones from the wood is going to be a nightmare.

I'm suprised that we have no problem with the cats / dog and chooks bothering each other. They currently just ignore each other. Bingleys more interested in the chook food than the chickens.

Today (Tuesday) Andy has flown off to meet his dad in Melbourne, and Johnny is heading out of Australia. Unfortunately I didn't get to see them before they left. They were out all Saturday night, having borrowed W's car, but didn't return to our house until mid afternoon on Sunday (we'd expected them in the AM) - and by then I was at work. They bought us a big christmas hamper (yes Christmas gets earlier and earlies at the shops) - full of goodies. It was on a lovely steel fruit basket. Very nice. Thanks lads.

Made some doors

The title says it all - I spent the weekend finishing off these doors for the Pizza oven. Other than fixing up the grouting, that's the lot for the oven.
